Rovers manager Steven Saunders reflects on our opening day 1-0 defeat to Cumnock Juniors.
On the Match
“It was a very disappointing performance from us personally; we played a certain way through pre-season, and we asked the boys to play a certain way, and I just didn’t see that at all today. I think this is when you realise who is going to step up to the mark as a player and take on the information; it’s ok to do it in friendlies and in pre-season, but when the competitive games come around, I’m expecting a lot better from my team.”
On the only goal of the game

“That’s what Adam Forde does; he scores goals. It was a good play from what they did; they exploited our weakness down the right-hand side when Chris (Neeson) was pushed on a little bit and played it there. We just never recovered from it. It’s a great save from Granty (Tamosevicius), but you have to have bodies there to help defend the rebound.”
On trialists
“There will be trialists again over the next couple of weeks; it’s been sort of a short turnaround time to get players signed. There still will be conversations with other clubs about players coming in, but I’m hoping over the coming weeks there will be more signings.”
On the travelling support

“The fans were here in their numbers. It’s great, and it’s a good feeling to have the fans behind you; I’m just disappointed that the players never put on what I know they can do, and we will work hard this week to try and put it right against Largs.”
Preparing for Largs
“We’ll go again on Tuesday, as that’s all we can do. It’s the first game of the season, and it’s disappointing. I don’t think we created enough chances, and I don’t think our decision-making in the final third was good enough today, and it’s something we will look at over Tuesday and Thursday before Largs next week.”
We are next in action this Saturday (2nd August) as we welcome Largs Thistle to the Reigart Stadium.
