Buddies

The Buddies is one of our longest running community groups.  They meet every Monday at Cliftonhill Stadium between 10 and 12 noon. Up to 10 ‘Buddies’ from Key Housing gather in the club’s lounge to engage in a range of social activities and sometimes just to enjoy a blether and a cup of tea. Occasionally they leave the lounge to visit the local bowling green, golf range or to take part in community activities such as improving the environment at one of our local railway stations. The Buddies are accompanied on their Monday visits to or out of the stadium by one or more keyworkers. This is an excellent example of the Trust’s partnership working.

The Thursday Club as part of the Rovers in the Community Trust are an enthusiastic group of fans gather who use their skills and love for the Rovers in a range of ways: tidying the stadium after matches, preparing it for upcoming games and carrying out maintenance tasks designed to keep our 100-year-old stadium in good shape. The skills deployed include: joinery, electrical work, groundwork on the pitch, landscaping, painting and general maintenance.  The Thursday Club is an invaluable help to the football club. There is also the social and friendship side of the Thursday Club.  After working from 9,30, the group settle down around 12 for a chat over a cuppa and a blether putting football and the world to rights: not always in that order!

If you are retired or have the occasional free Thursday morning why don’t you come along and join us at Cliftonhill Stadium. It’s a great way to help the Rovers by using the skills you have and also to enjoy company and have a chat and a laugh.

Hope to see you soon!

Founded in April 2018, the Albion Rovers Memories Group was the 31 st to be founded. Airdrie was the 32nd! This SFA initiative, in conjunction with Alzheimer Scotland, was set up to bring fans of football clubs together to reminisce about the good times and occasional bad times of the team they support.

The aims of football memory groups are to tackle loneliness, social isolation and to fend off the onset of memory loss by bringing older fans together on a regular basis for a chat about Rovers players, managers and matches. Our group meets every third Friday of the month from 1.30 to 3 or whenever we stop talking.

Our volunteers smashed it during the closed season, and the results speak for themselves — the ground and stadium have never looked better.

To keep that standard high, we’re launching monthly volunteer maintenance days.

From tidying and small repairs to general upkeep, these sessions will help us stay ahead of the game.

If you’re willing to roll up your sleeves and get stuck in, we’d love to have you on board. Whether you can commit every month or just occasionally, your support keeps the club thriving.

Get in touch to join the crew. We’re planning to meet this Thursday night, 6/8pm.

Thank you as always
