Albion Rovers Remembrance Service

Albion Rovers will mark Remembrance Day before our Scottish Lowland Football League West fixture against Renfrew on Saturday, November 7 (3pm KO).

There will be a short service led by Club Chaplain Rev Peter Wright at our Remembrance Garden, which will include a bugler performing a rendition of the Last Post and Reveille.

The service will begin at 1.15pm, and we kindly invite you along to The Reigart Stadium to pay your respects alongside the ARFC family, including our first team.

We will honour eight former players who were killed in action during World War I, with three wreaths being laid by representatives of the Football Club, Supporters Trust and Community Trust.

John Gilmour, club president of Renfrew, will also lay a wreath.

After the service, attendees are invited to adjourn to the lounge for reflection, chat and some catering.

Before kick-off, a minute’s silence will take place. Our teamwear will also adorn a Poppy.

Club historian Brian Nugent, who organises our annual Remembrance Service, said: “This is our fourth Remembrance Service to commemorate the eight Rovers players who died in World War 1.

“All are invited to attend Cliftonhill on Saturday, 1.15pm start, for the Service and to visit the Remembrance Garden.

“A special mention for our opponents on Saturday – Renfrew who plan to attend the Service, and John Gilmour, their president, who will lay a wreath with wreaths from Hugh Morrison for the Football Club, Ronnie Boyd for the Albion Rovers Community Trust and David Crighton for the Albion Rovers Supporters Trust.”
