Matthew Aitken’s two late strikes ensured a first victory of the season, as we won away to Annan Athletic 3-2.
The first half saw a different Rovers from last week from the off – we created chance after chance and controlled most of the game. Baker was excellent in attack holding up the ball whilst the midfield trio of Allan, Wilson and Leslie came to life.
The second half saw us take the lead from the spot. Baker stepped up and powered the ball past the reach of the keeper.
When Annan equalised at the death from a deep cross to the back post, our heads didn’t go down.
Aitken stormed past the Annan backline and drove forward before slotting the ball past the keeper with ease. It got even better moments later – Aitken stood over a freekick around 25 yards from goal which he duly dispatched into the net.
Annan got another late goal back from poor Rovers defending but we held out for a crucial and deserved win at Galabank!
We now face Annan again at home in the Betfred Cup on Tuesday. The match will be live to watch for £10, with guest co-commentator Ryan McStay helping describe the action.
