Albion Rovers 0-1 East Fife

Albion Rovers 0-1 East Fife

Albion Rovers lost out by a single goal on Saturday afternoon to East Fife at the Reigart Stadium.

Ryan Schiavone’s fifth-minute strike on the breakaway sealed the three points for the away side.

In what was a display lacking real quality on the ball from Brian Reid’s side, we couldn’t find an equaliser.

Jack Leighfield saved a late spot with an excellent save keeping Scott Shepherd’s effort out.

Rovers now travel to Ochilview on Saturday to take on Stenhousemuir.

Assistant manager Scott MacKenzie said of the performance: “We weren’t at the races. We started the match so poorly and we were ragged in that opening ten minutes, our shape was all over the place.

“Poor decision-making in the middle of the park leads to their goal early on. Both our midfielders decide not to tackle the player and they score from it. It was a terrible goal to lose and it gave them a lift.

“The horrible thing is that we probably didn’t deserve anything today out of the game. It is another 1-0 loss. They looked hungry compared to us on and off the ball. They won battles all over the pitch.

“We were second to every ball. We looked lethargic and that isn’t like us. We pride ourselves on being fit.

“We didn’t create enough. One shot (from substitute Barry Duncan isn’t good enough) and we gave them an easy ride. There was no quality in our play.

“Having Sean Fagan come back on was a big positive but we shouldn’t be in a position like that – forcing ourselves to bring him on to try and get back into the game.

“He is a massive player for us. A leader on the pitch.”
