Brian Reid lamented another performance filled with defensive errors as Rovers lost out 3-1 at Station Park.
The hosts started well and scored early on. Meechan’s shot from a wide area wasn’t dealt with and Binnie made an uncharacteristic error – letting the ball slip through to McCluskey who had an empty net to slot home.
Max Wright had our best chance of the half when a slack backpass gave him a shooting opportunity, but his effort was tame.
Shepherd scored the second for the Loons during the second half. It was an easy header after some really poor defending.
Ex-Rovers hitman Aikten then scored the third goal of the match – Lewis Wilson was caught out trying to play offside and the ball was fed across the box for an easy finish.
Our trialist substitute pulled one back to make it 3-1 with a deft finish after being played in by David Wilson. He was lively and created two other decent chances and will have impressed Brian Reid with his cameo.
Brian Reid post-match:
“We can’t keep giving away cheap goals. At the start of the season, we were scoring first and early and giving ourselves a platform to build from – conceding avoidable goals and picking up points don’t go together.
“The first goal was dreadful – we don’t stop it at source then it’s too easy for the boy to get into a shooting position. Cammy will be disappointed with it as well the way it eventually went in.
“I actually thought for spells we did okay – but we need to be a wee bit more decisive on the ball and not wait for something to happen.
“He (Trialist) took his goal well and gave us a lot of energy going forward, he’s going to be with us for a couple of weeks while we have a look at him.”
