Board update on B teams vote: 17/12/23

Board update on B teams vote: 17/12/23

We can confirm that we will vote against the continued inclusion of guest clubs in the Park’s Motor Group Lowland League, at an upcoming vote, being held tomorrow night by the league’s governing body.

Our position on B teams within the pyramid has not changed. Supporters are the lifeblood of our game in Scotland – we are nothing without them. The majority of Albion Rovers supporters (and the majority of Scottish football fans) are totally against B teams.

We have carefully considered the financial benefits of what has been put forward but simply cannot agree with the idea of B teams as it doesn’t benefit supporters. They don’t want it and we must respect that.

Our circumstances have changed but our principles haven’t, or shouldn’t. As a club, we see little benefit from the inclusion of B teams to ourselves or our league.

It is a myth that fixture attendance or interest in our league is greatly boosted by B teams. In reality, by saying no thanks to B teams as a league, we would greatly boost our cause in terms of promoting and marketing the Lowland League as an attractive proposition for supporters.

The job of our league isn’t to pander to the biggest clubs in the country – it is to promote the very best of the Lowland-based teams who are rightfully afforded a chance to gain promotion to the SPFL.

We encourage our fellow Lowland League clubs to join us in putting fans first tomorrow night.
