Board update – 06/01/25

Margaret Rizza has asked for her letter of resignation from the Albion Rovers Board of Directors to be published online.

The Club would like to place on record our thanks to Margaret for all of her hard work.

LETTER

Dear Board Members, Community and Supporters Trusts and Fans of Albion Rovers,

It is with deep frustration and a profound sense of concern for the future of Albion Rovers Football Club that I announce my resignation as a member of the Board of Directors, effective immediately.

Over the past year, I have worked tirelessly alongside dedicated colleagues on the Board to address the club’s dire financial situation. Among these individuals is Stuart Black, whose expertise and tireless efforts have been integral to shaping a recovery plan for the club. Yet, despite the critical need for unity and collaboration, Stuart’s election to the Board was rejected at the AGM on Thursday 19th December 2024 —a decision driven by a small group of shareholders wielding disproportionate power, including the major shareholder holding circa 7,000 shares.

This rejection is not just a blow to the Board; it is a reckless move that risks further destabilising the club at a time when decisive and collective action is essential. The club is on the brink of financial catastrophe, and yet those who have exercised their power to block Stuart’s appointment have offered no clear vision or plan to address the challenges we face. This lack of leadership and accountability is nothing short of alarming.

The reality is that power without responsibility is a destructive force. Decisions that shape the future of Albion Rovers must be made with transparency and a commitment to the club’s survival. Instead, we are left grappling with a governance structure that allows a few individuals to undermine the work of those striving to secure the club’s viability. To the major shareholder and those aligned with him: what is your plan to save this club from collapse? What steps are you willing to take to ensure that Albion Rovers remains a viable business and a cornerstone of the community?

Over my time on the Board, I have willingly given countless hours of my time on a voluntary basis because I believe in this club and what it stands for. However, it has become clear that despite the dedication of the Board, our ability to make meaningful progress can be continually stifled by the power dynamics within the club. I cannot justify continuing to give my time, energy, and expertise to a Board that can be repeatedly undermined and left with little real power to enact the changes Albion Rovers FC so desperately needs.

To the fans, whose passion and loyalty define this club, I urge you to demand answers and accountability of those who hold power. Albion Rovers belongs to you, and your voices must not be drowned out by those who see the club as a personal asset rather than a shared institution. Stay engaged, stay vocal, and continue to fight for the transparency and leadership that this club so desperately needs.

To the Board. My heartfelt thanks go to those who have worked tirelessly in the face of these challenges. I encourage you to remain steadfast in your efforts and to continue pushing for a governance structure that empowers collective action and reflects the true spirit of Albion Rovers FC.

While I step down from my position, I remain committed to supporting the club by being an advocate for its future success. My hope is that the Club can overcome these internal divisions and emerge stronger, with a governance structure that serves its stakeholders and a vision that ensures its survival.

Thank you to both the Community and Supporters Trust, the fans, my colleagues on the Board, and everyone who believes in the potential of this historic club.

Sincerely,

Mags

Margaret Rizza
