In the past month, there have been two hate crime incidents at football matches involving clubs from North Lanarkshire where players have been racially abused by fans during matches.
The community Policing teams from Airdrie and Coatbridge have launched a local campaign to raise awareness and educate fans.
16th October 2021 Albion Rovers v Elgin City @ Cliftonville
23rd October 2021 Airdrie v Dumbarton @ Penny Cars Stadium.
This Saturday, four officers from the Community Policing team will attend the Albion Rovers v Elgin City game. They hope to engage with fans of both clubs, handing out relevant information and leaflets in relation to hate crime and incidents.
The “Show Racism the Red Card” organisation will show their support by tweeting and posting on social media highlighting the campaign.
In parallel, school officers will also be involved in delivering the “Pitchin in Programme” in the local high schools around this time.
As a club, Albion Rovers FC are very pleased to support the Community Policing team at Coatbridge Police Office and warmly welcome them.
