AfroScots x Albion Rovers

AfroScots x Albion Rovers

Our reserves faced AfroScots United over the weekend as we continued to build on our great partnership between ourselves and the ethnic minority club.

This match was also the first time our opposition wore their new black and yellow strips, which were donated by Albion Rovers earlier this month.

We have already seen a handful of players turn out for our reserves and first team after being part of the AfroScots set-up.

Match report

Graeme Liveston’s reserves travelled to Holm Park on Sunday night to take on AfroScots in another organised friendly between ourselves and the ethnic minority side – who have a mix of players from across the Scottish footballing pyramid.

On the night, a team that included the likes of first-teamers Sean Fagan, Chris Smith, Devan McColl, Reagan Cairney-Smith and Barry Duncan put on a show, scoring some excellent goals in an entertaining match-up.

AfroScots are of course where Joe Bevan was scouted from, and where reserves captain Michael Semirimu joined from. Former player Amaury Testa also was part of their set-up – which has included the likes of Islam Feruz and Siriki Dembele previously.

Cha Henderson opened the scoring early on, taking advantage of indecision in around the penalty box to slot home.

Barry Duncan then curled a stunning free-kick into the far corner past the reach of the AfroScots goalkeeper.

A nice passing move then saw Kyle McCallum finish off a well-worked move, with Youcef Narbesla making it four with a cracking outside-of-the-bott strike from the edge of the box.

The reserves made a poor start to the second half, and the deficit was halved by two quick-fire goals, one of which was a brilliant effort in a game that was full of quality goals.

Reagan Cairney-Smith was the next to find the net for Rovers with another superb free kick from the away side.

Finally, Ryan Devine rounded off our scoring, finishing off a nice move with aplomb in the box. Cairney-Smith drove down the touchline and into the box, laying the ball off to the onrushing midfielder.

AfroScots did get another two goals throughout the half in a match that probably lacked a little bit of defensive cohesion – but it made for an entertaining match of football.

Thanks again to AfroScots and head coach Eva for the match and we look forward to our next encounter.
