With only one more game until the first quarter of the season has officially been completed, as a whole, it’s been a largely solid start to the season so far for the Rovers, player/manager Darren Young’s side currently occupying joint third spot in the Ladbrokes League One table along with Forfar and Airdrieonians.
Over the last few week’s, it’s been fairly noticeable that a real buzz is building around everyone associated with Albion Rovers – positive momentum coming both on and off the park. The last two Saturday’s have seen the team pick up their first consecutive League One victories since gaining promotion last season, Rovers recording two fine wins over Stranraer and Stenhousemuir.
Saturday’s dominant win over Stenhousemuir at Cliftonhill saw double goalscoring striker saw his goal scoring tally move to three for the season, and importantly sealed Rovers fourth victory of the season.
“The boys are delighted with the win. ” Commented Young after the game.
“Everybody played their part, we have a great squad, good belief and there’s a real togetherness within the club.”
“I thought we knocked the ball about well, looked confident and we had a lot of possession, but the longer the first half went on I was thinking to myself, if we don’t take all the chances we’re creating we might get punished, but luckily enough we got the break through.”
Despite the highs of Saturday’s win, Young insists that his sides should now look to push ahead, starting with a tough trip to Fife next week: “Away next week to Dunfermline, we will look to prepare and get our minds fully set for that match now. ”
