Skipper Michael Dunlop signs-on for 2016/17 journey

stenAlbion Rovers Club Captain Michael Dunlop has this afternoon put paper to pen, signing a year extension to stay at Cliftonhill for the 2016/17 season.

Dunlop, who has made just over 100 appearances for the Rovers during his three year time at the club, has been a vital cog in the Rovers defence, a defence that was statistically the second best in the league across the entire 2015-16 Ladbrokes League One season.

The 33 year old centre-half shared to us his delight at securing his future at the club for another year at least.

“I’m delighted to have agreed a new contract for next season. I’ve enjoyed a very successful three years at the club since James Ward brought me here in 2013. It’s been a great move for me.”

“On a personal level I felt that last season I had another solid one, but more importantly as a team I thought we had a magnificent campaign. To miss out on the promotion play-offs by only two points was a sore one to take but it really puts into perspective how well we had done all year to get ourselves into that position and still on the last day of the season have something to play for.”

“With regards to next season, we will obviously initially look to get enough points on the board to stay up, then once we achieve that, the goal will be to try and push on and see if we can finish higher than last season.”

The signing of Michael along with those who have also announced committed their futures to the club allow the club to prepare early for the season ahead, with the aim of next season consolidating and expanding as a club.
