Rovers v St Mirren – Irn Bru Cup – Preview

Kick-off: 15:00

Where: Exsel Group Stadium

On Saturday afternoon we welcome Alex Rae’s St Mirren to the Exsel Group Stadium, the winner of the game thereafter progressing into the Fourth Round of the Irn Bru Cup.

It’s been a disappointing last few week’s for Rovers, some dominant periods in the recent games against Peterhead and Alloa seeing us gain only one point as we search for our first taste of victory in the campaign.

It isn’t all doom and gloom however, some brilliant football has been played and there certainly has been more than enough chances to collect all three points in some matches – we just need to start converting chances that come our way.

St Mirren, who only two seasons ago were playing in the Scottish Premiership, have also not had the start to the campaign they’d be hoping for, the Buddies currently sat in second bottom spot, with two points gained thus far.

This is certainly an opportunity to cause an upset and go one step closer to gaining silverware.

Darren’s pre-match thoughts

“St Mirren have a big physical side, who perhaps should still be in the Premiership.

“They have lots of experienced guys who have played at a higher level and they can potentially cause us problems if we aren’t switched on and ready from the start.

“In saying that, we have been playing some good football and creating chances so hopefully come Saturday it will all fall into place for us.

“St Mirren are a Championship side so will without doubt provide a stern test for us, however, we enjoyed our games against Morton and Killie in the League Cup earlier in the season and the boys seem to thrive on the big occasions. We’ll be hoping to put in a similar performance on Saturday.”
