Ross Stewart commits future to Rovers

Goalkeeper Ross Stewart has today signed a contract, extending his stay at Cliftonhill until the end of the 2016-17 campaign at least.

Stewart, the 21 year old goalkeeper who enjoyed a fine debut season, expressed his delight of his signing to us.

“I’m very happy to have signed a new one year deal with the club. I’m looking forward to getting back into it and putting everything I learned from last season into this one and pushing on.”

In terms of last season, it was very solid one for Stewart, playing an integral part to the defence with the second best record in the Ladbrokes League One.

“Last season was my first full season playing first team football and I loved every minute of it.I learned so much and felt that I was progressing and getting better each week.

“We managed to get nine clean-sheets and only one team in the league conceded less goals, which is a great achievement for me and the defence. To get the highest finish in the clubs history was s great achievement, but I’m sure I speak for all the lads and coaching staff when I say we were absolutely gutted just missing out on the play-off spots.”

“My hopes now for this season personally is just trying to keep progressing and learning as much as I can. As a team I’m sure we all want the play-offs and from the way we played last season, if we can carry that into this one and build on it then I don’t see why we can’t do it this year.”

Stewart concluded the interview with a comment regarding the importance of an improvement in the cups for this season.

“Also, after reaching the Scottish Cup Third Round last season, a cup run would be great as well.”
