Welcome returns to the starting eleven for Gary Fisher and Lewis Wilson brought some optimism pre-match in what was already a huge match at this point in the season.
The opening moments of the game once again showed promise for the ‘Rovers who started the better of the two sides. Scott Forrester looped the ball over the Spiders backline and Jamie Watson should have done better, striking the ball way over the goal.
Forrester then was to blame when he scuffed his clearance, the ball landing outside the box to Kurtis Roberts who placed the ball in the net. Daniel Potts got a hand to the ball but could not keep it out, and looking back will make that one to forget.
Potts redeemed himself making some smart saves as the home side took total control, the Rovers struggling to create any passages of play. John Cunningham was sent through on goal after some neat play, but was ruled offside.
Billy Mortimer struck the ball from outside the box after cutting in from the wing, and he seen his shot deflect past the helpless Potts, making it two goals just before half-time.
The day became even worse for the Rovers when Barry Eley was sent off for a foul in the box, leaving the trailing side with 10 men. Potts was equal to a poor spot kick and kept the score at 2-0, after also making a remarkable acrobatic save in the aftermath.
The match was seen out comfortably by the Spiders who were not troubled by the depleted ten-man Rovers.
The result leaves the Rovers bottom of the table, and still searching for a first League 2 goal.

The newly formed Reserve League 2 had its first round of matches during the week, with the Rovers facing Berwick Rangers away from home.
