Where: Rugby Park
We travel to Ayrshire on Saturday, facing Ladbrokes Premiership side Kilmarnock in our final Betfred Cup Group game of the season.
Although Tuesday night’s defeat at home to Clyde disappointingly put an end to our qualification aspirations, the trip to Rugby Park will still be an ideal test to see where we are ahead of the new season, and an opportunity for us to end the Group stages with a bang.
Player/manager Darren Young spoke to us regarding the trip to face Lee Clark’s men and the Betfred Cup, as a whole.
“I had my reservations about the set up at first, but I have to admit, I think it has been pretty competitive and exciting for both fans and players.
“We’re playing against a premier league team so that will be incentive enough to get boys up for it and playing to the best of their ability.
“Killie are a good team, who under Lee Clark will be looking to improve on last season’s finish to the season. We will however have to be at our very best in order to get anything from the game.”
He concluded: “If we can produce a similar performance to the one we had against Clyde on Tuesday then we will be happy. We created enough chances to win two games, much like last season, it was just a case of finishing off the good play.”
With midfield maestros Paul Archibald and Scott McBride returning to training and back in contention, the coaching staff have a full-strength squad to pick from – something hugely important as we make our way into the start of the league campaign.
