Future Star: Reece Rintoul

U20s player Recce talks to the ‘Vers programme about his recent rise. Not only did he play against England with the Scotland School Boys squad, but he cruised the game-winning the Man of the Match award as the young Scots won 2-0 on the night.

Q: Playing for Scotland at any level is an amazing achievement, how does it feel to know you have represented your country?

A: It’s been an absolute privilege and pleasure to play for my country at such a young age. To put on the Scotland strip is just incredible. Belting out Flower of Scotland before each game is just amazing!

Q: MOTM against England, was it your favourite match you have played in your career so far?

A: To not only play against England, but to beat them 2-0 in their backyard is amazing. It has been my favourite game of my career so far, and to do it with all my teammates was brilliant, to be named Man of the Match just tops it off.

Q: How would you describe yourself as a player?

A: Firstly, I have a huge drive to win and always want to do well, I work for my teammates and like to keep the ball, having possession of the ball is very important to me.

Q: What would you say you bring to the team?

A: I would say I bring a level head, in the midfield, I like to try and have a good range of passing, I would say I make good chances for the forwards by helping build the attack and find the pockets of space.

Q: What would be your perfect goal?

A: Definitely something spectacular like an overhead kick! Maybe a bit like the one Ronaldo scored against Juventus…

Q: Where do you hope to see yourself in 10 years time?

A: I try not to think too much about the future and keep a level head, I would love to play at the highest level. To play in the Premier League at some point in my career is definitely the main goal. Of course, I would love to play for the Men’s A squad!

Q: What professional player would you say you try and match your game to?

A: I have always looked up to someone like Iniesta, at one point he was one of the best midfielders in the world, the way he could control the game and find any man with a pass is just amazing to me. Overall, his technique is just perfect and I would love to have the same level of composure as him.

Q: What do you get up to outside football?

A: Outside of football, I go to the gym all the time, I want to make sure I am as fit and as strong as I can be, its so important in the game today.
