It may be the end of season break for many at Albion Rovers Football Club, but there’s no rest for manager Darren Young, who is already well underway for next seasons preparations. He spoke to us today, letting us know how his side are shaping up for next season, as well as the clubs pre-season details.
“First of all, we’re delighted to get Scott McBride signed up again for next season. Scott managed nine goals for us even though he was injured for the first month or so. We also played him out of position at times, but he showed just how versatile he is and was a big player for us by the end of the season.
“We also signed up Mick Dunlop, something that is hugely important for the club. He has been a massive part as to why we have had such a great defensive record these past 2 seasons, hopefully we can continue it again into this season.”
Whilst Rovers announced the re-signings of two important players, last seasons top goalscorer Ally Love has signed a two year deal at Brechin City, a move that frustrates Young, however, doesn’t believe it will be too significant when Rovers bring in a few fresh faces.
“We’re disappointed to lose Ally as he was our top scorer last season and never let us down throughout the whole season. He was a great guy to have in the dressing room too, but when teams come in and offer silly money then it’s hard to compete.
“We’re looking to strengthen all over during this window but particularly up top where we were missing that goal scorer.”
Ahead of next season, plans are well underway for the clubs pre-season preparations, a part of the season that is integral if we are to hit the ground running this campaign.
