What you need to know:

Weather: Rainy, but light drizzle.

Saturday’s trip to Stenhousemuir has the makings of one of the greatest days in Albion Rovers history. A victory, should various other results go our way, could see Darren Young’s side make the Ladbrokes League One promotion play-offs for the first time in the clubs history.

For the above scenario to happen, it’s vital that Stranraer are defeated in their home clash against Cowdenbeath, whilst rivals Airdrieonians must drop points at Ayr United.

Firstly however, Rovers need to overcome the obstacle of beating Stenhousemuir, who are fighting to retain their Scottish League One status for next season. Stenny boss Brown Ferguson’s side will certainly be no pushovers in this match and, like Rovers, will be desperate to record victory.

With Saturday having the potential to be an incredible occasion for all associated with Albion Rovers Football Club, Darren Young explained to us just how excited he is ahead of the game.

“If the club reach the play-offs it will be an unbelievable feat, but nothing more than the boys deserve after the season they have had. It would be a fairytale end to the season and who knows what could happen if we get into them.”

“Even if we don’t win and finish 6th it will still have been an absolutely amazing season and by all accounts the best ever campaign in Albion Rovers history.”

Whilst Rovers have had the upper-hand in ties between Saturday’s opponents this season, Young suggests that the previous games will go out the window this weekend and is one-of-a-kind.

“This match will be like no other game this season. First of all, we’ll need to try and block out the other games that are happening elsewhere, even though I’m sure the fans reaction will let us know what’s going on. At the same time we just need to concentrate on ourselves, get the win and the three points that we need to give ourselves the chance to make the play offs. The players have all been looking forward to this game and are bursting to get started.”

Giving Rovers a huge boost in progressing into the play-offs, the coaching staff will have a full strength squad to pick from, but Young says he won’t accommodate those who may perhaps be playing in their final game for the club just for the sake of it.

“The team on Saturday will be picked depending on how hard the players have worked and how well they have done in training. We have everything to play for, this Saturday is now the biggest game of the season for us.”

Rovers Communications Officer Joe James also spoke ahead of Saturday’s game: “The club have worked extremely hard to get this discounted admission offer for season ticket holders, therefore it’s vital we get as many Rovers supporters as possible to make the journey and support the team.”

He added: “Even if results don’t go our way elsewhere, it would be brilliant to end the season on a high and give the players and coaching staff the reception they deserve after such an incredible effort over the course of this season.”
