Despite gaining a point courtesy of a goalless draw in normal time, Rovers lost out on the bonus point having fell to defeat against Championship side Greenock Morton on penalties.
Rovers so nearly took the lead inside the first 15 minutes, Scott McBride whipping in a delightful ball from the flank onto the head of Calum Ferguson, however, the strikers header flew inches wide of the target.
Despite Morton enjoying the vast majority of possession it was Rovers who were creating the more clear-cut chances, this time Gary Fisher stinging the palms of the Morton keeper with a strike from distance.
Not long after the restart Rovers again came close when Fisher’s wide free-kick ricocheted inside the box, however, the ball narrowly evaded McBride, who was waiting to pounce.
Neither side was able to break the deadlock in the 90 minutes, so the game went to penalties. Following the lottery of the spot-kicks, it was the away side who left with the two points, Alan Reid and Gary Fisher missing the all-important penalties for the Rovers.
