Albion Rovers left it late with John Gemmell scoring the only goal as the Rovers narrowly defeated Peterhead at Cliftonhill.
In the first half, few chances were created for both sides, however, Alistair Love went close just before the interval, the attacking midfielder’s header terrifically cleared off the line, before Love shortly after forced Graeme Smith into a fine save.
As the game entered its conclusion, there was little sign of either team making the breakthrough, that was until a slack back-pass invited Gemmell one-on-one with the goalkeeper, the Rovers striker coolly rounding the keeper before converting into an empty net.
Player/manager Young commented on the victory: “The game could’ve went either way, fortunately it was us who got the slight bit of luck in the end, we got the breakthrough and won the match.”
“We came in at half-time and said that one goal was going to absolutely crucial – it was that kind of game.” He added.
Up next for Rovers is a trip to ninth place Brechin, a game that Young doesn’t see why we can’t return with all three points.
“We’ve got a close-knit squad and have so far shown we are capable of getting results regularly at this level.
“We won’t get ahead of ourselves, though, at the end of the day it’s three points today, if we continue doing what we’re doing we’ll have a good season.”
